Here's a contractor telling you when NOT to hire a contractor: plenty of painting is genuinely DIY-able, and pretending otherwise would insult your intelligence. The skill isn't rolling paint — it's knowing which projects punish amateurs.

- Wash kitchen/bath walls; scuff-sand glossy surfaces
- Fill and sand every hole; caulk trim gaps with paintable caulk
- Spot-prime patches and stains (stain-blocking primer on water marks)
- Cut in with an angled sash brush, then roll while the cut line is wet
- Two coats, full stop — 'one thick coat' is how streaks are born
