Costs & PricingBathroom Vanity Installation: Costs & What to Expect
A new vanity is the biggest visual upgrade a bathroom can get in a single day. It's also where old plumbing likes to surprise people; half the value of a professional install is what happens when the shutoff valves crumble.
Typical 2026 Chicagoland ranges; vanity unit priced separately from labor.
Installation pricing
| Scope | Typical labor range |
|---|---|
| Swap in same location (single) | $350-$800 |
| Swap with plumbing updates (valves, trap, supply lines) | $500-$1,000 |
| Double vanity replacement | $600-$1,200 |
| New location (plumbing moves) | $1,200-$3,000+ |
Vanity units themselves run from about $300 for stock big-box pieces to $1,500-$4,000+ for quality furniture-style or custom units with stone tops.
What a proper install includes
- Old unit removal and haul-away
- Shutoff valve and supply line replacement: 30-year-old valves fail the day you touch them, so replace on principle
- Level and secure mounting to studs (stone tops are heavy)
- New P-trap fit-up, faucet install, silicone at walls and top
- Leak test under real pressure before the tools leave
Sizing & selection quick guide
- Measure twice: width, depth (door swing!), and plumbing centerline from the wall
- Standard widths: 24/30/36/48/60/72 inches; matching the existing width avoids flooring and paint gaps
- Comfort height (36") is the modern default; keep drawer boxes, soft-close hinges, and real wood face frames on your must list
- Undermount sinks in stone tops clean easier than vessel or drop-in styles

What else do homeowners ask?
Can a vanity be installed in one visit?
Usually yes for a same-location swap, a few hours including plumbing hookup. Wall repairs, tile, or surprises extend it.
Do I need a plumber or a remodeler?
A remodeler who does finish plumbing handles vanity swaps end-to-end, including the wall repair and caulk lines a plumber won't touch.
What if my floor isn't level?
Common in older homes. Units get shimmed and scribed so the top is level and gaps disappear. It's craft work, and it's included in a real quote.
Freestanding or wall-hung?
Freestanding is simpler and forgiving; wall-hung (floating) looks modern and eases cleaning but requires blocking in the wall, so plan it during larger remodels.
Cost figures are typical Chicagoland market ranges for planning purposes, current as of 2026, and are not a quote. Every project is priced individually after an on-site estimate; condition, selections, and scope change the numbers.
